Editor-In-Chief’s Blog
I absolutely adore photography, but in a small one horse town it’s really difficult to find good models-let alone fashion models. However, every blue moon I spot a really good model that inspires me. You may ask who is it that has inspired me for this issue? Well, that model would be an African American model who is bald, has thick lips, with a slim build and poses like you wouldn’t believe. And did I mention she has a great personality. Shai’ La Yvonne was just what was needed to help me get my creative juices flowing. Shai la is signed with Exalt modeling agency; she has a great commercial/fashion look, and a very infectious smile. Here is an image from our shoot featuring stylist Terri White.
See her entire spread and full interview in May/June 2012 issue of Glam Couture. FYI you will be seeing more from Shai featuring our own photographer Silke!!

Just returning home from the movie “The Avengers”. I must say this movie is a must see! From the creative perspective. Everything from the composition to story line, kept you waiting with bated breath for the next scene. Funny, even in my leisure, I’m breaking down and analyzing things. Can’t wait for the DVD and the sequel.
My favorite characters: All of them but here are my top picks
1. Tony Stark Iron man
Favorite line: Take away the suit and what are you? Answer: philanthropist, billionaire and playboy! Lol!
2. The Widow
I won’t spoil things for my friends that haven’t seen the movie. But I will say, how I appreciate the fact that the writers and director gave this character her due.
3. The Hulk! Ok this dates back to my childhood.
And perhaps I’m sending the wrong message by liking a character with anger issues. Perhaps some anger management might be in order. But he’s mean and green and a fighting and smashing machine.
If your a procrastinator like me.and you try to hold out for the DVD. FYI your missing out on the entire movie experience. Grab a few tickets, pick up the kids and enjoy.

Family first
The last few weeks have rocked my world. The most important woman in my life my mother was hospitalized. I was very close to losing her. Being in a position like that really makes one get their priorities in order. I flew back home and sat at my mothers hospital bed with my brothers and sisters. Its been 12 years since I’d been back to Detroit. My mom who was deathly ill, remind me of a conversation we had. I’d told her I would never come back to Detroit. She said in a very weak voice. “I knew when you said that, that god had different plans. Just recently a number of my staff and interns had lost loved ones as well. As well as my experience with a very dear friend that is terminally ill. Life is precious and relationships are so fragile. It’s important to cherish loved ones, and cultivate relationships. As well as maintain a good work life balance.

A new direction
I’m one for reinventing myself. And so this weekend my muse and I decided to step outside the box and try new lighting and makeup concepts. Shai’La is such an inspiring model/muse. She didn’t complain one bit as we spread white paint all over her, then had her wash it all off, so that we could repeat the process with black paint. We used a basic dramatic lighting setup and I shot at close range. I’m pleased with the results I hope you are too. So happy I decided to open my schedule for three new muses after August. Ive been very guarded in who I work with for obvious reasons. But I decided to give it a go again. Email me @ Editor@glamcouturemag.com if your interested and to get more details on “The muse project”.

A day in the life….
I’m not sure what other Editor in chiefs days are like, but mine can be pretty hectic. Today for instance. I have a planning meeting with my staff. I’m planning a theme for my shoot this evening. I’ll need to carve out time for my mom and my little ones and my better half. I have editing to do, recruiting, and my actual shoot. For the most part I try not to think about the volume of task I have and just complete one at a time. But I think I’m over due for a vacation.

As Editor in Chief and owner of Glam Couture magazine. Sometimes one of my biggest challenges is getting people to work together cohesively, efficiently, with purpose and no attitude. I wear many hats in this business. And at the same time I have to balance my personal life with my professional life. Many times the two don’t play well together. I am very thankful however for the strong staff, the passionate talent and last but not least my children and the love of my life. That willingly make sacrifices so that I can help others attain their goals and live out their dreams to be published artist, and writers. Thank you to my little one and my college student daughters that don’t complain one bit, with my being handcuffed to a computer or disappearing for days to conduct photo shoots. Thank you also to those artist doing the same to make their own dreams come true.
We are a small magazine with a lot of heart. There are many magazines out there in the publics eye. But the beauty behind Glam Couture is its passion, tenacity, long standing, and talent. People from across the globe that are established photographers, models, designers, writers whom otherwise would not have an opportunity to work with a global magazine. Or those that work with us simply because they recognize our purpose and goals. I dedicate this post and issue to you and my children.
